A classic tale with light animation and interactivity ...

Star Tale (a division of Wise Kids) has come out with a beautifully rendered addition of the classic tale with their Three Little Pigs: Star Tale – Interactive Tales for Kids. One of nine books in a series that focuses on story content; Star Tale delivers a multisensory approach to each book. As the stories unfold, they leave one with a unique memorable experience, complete with discussion points and portraying life lessons. Each book offers professional narration, original music and artwork for each story. Let’s look at the Three Little Pigs – Interactive Tales for Kids and check out what makes this book so special.

On opening, choose between Read to Me, Read Myself and Auto Play. The Autoplay feature is nice for kids that have difficulty motor planning or limited use of their arms or hands. In Read to Me and Read Myself, kids must turn the pages which gives them control over the pacing to better process the content, and time to allow for the teacher to ask questions or prompt early readers. Audio options to eliminate sounds or background music are presented if you would like a more 1:1 experience reading with a child or if a child tends to be more auditory sensitive.

There are options for several different languages, and it is always a treat to hear a familiar tale when learning a new language. One of the really thoughtful features of this app is when selecting a language is that you can choose a primary and secondary language and toggles it off and on within the book, and hears a page in both languages.

Fairy tales often evoke strong moral messages about a culture’s rules and social mores, and the Three Little Pigs – Interactive Tales for Kids, teaches the life lesson of putting forth the “right effort” and having a sense of purpose and fortitude. It also portrays forgiveness, compassion, and the love of family. In the story, we get to view the consequences of the first two little pigs’ actions, and see the third little pig forgive their earlier rudeness to help to keep his brothers safe. The illustrations by Park Jin Duk are really an artistic wonder in themselves. I love the collage of textures and patterns using fabric, paper cut outs, and real objects like sticks, straw and tools as they add a rich and playful atmosphere to the story. The pages turn as a board book, giving you the feel of a tangible book in your hands and give the books spatial dimension. All the clickable animations enhance the storyline, rather add an additional element. An original musical score, accompanies the book, and brings in an added spatial dimension.

Check out the Fairy Tale series from Star Tale/Wise Kids, there is sure to be one that will fit into your curriculum, the originality of the artwork and music are worth the look-see. The books deliver a novel experience and help commit the life lessons to memory through their multisensory approach. Definitely, recommended….choose your favorite story or use one tied into your theme for the week!
