Tiny Builders - Action Construction Site for Kids!

A modern tale about old tech ...

I love an app that can keep young curious minds engaged and entertained for hours, discovering a world that is usually out of bounds for them in real life. Tiny Builders – Digger, Crane and Dumper for Kids! brings preschoolers to the world of building and construction through such beautiful illustrations that every screen to explore is like a piece of art that has been created with lots of care and pride.

This latest seek and find interactive activity book app by wonderkind GmbH offers so many things for preschoolers to discover and do, while sharpening their observation and concentration skills. I’m truly impressed with the amount of attention given to details in an effort to make the scenes as realistic as possible yet still making sure that they are also age appropriate. From the main scene, kids can tap everywhere to activate different sound effects, fun animations and interactive elements or zoom into specific scenes to play with various activities.

While experiencing life on this construction site, kids get to meet different types of builders and learn about what they do by lending their hands in these building projects – build skyscraper with the crane, excavate a large pit using the digger, load and unload the large dump trucks, build road (with paver, road roller and road marker), drill a tunnel through a large mountain, move heavy rocks out of the way using the wheel loader, paint a house, search for water using the water drill, break up the ground with the jackhammer and transport rubble off the construction site with the tipper. That’s a lot to keep your tiny builder occupied!

I thought this app gives the perfect opportunity to learn the names of the different machines, vehicles and objects found in the construction site but there is no vocabulary words, whether in audio or written form, introduced in this app at all. There is however, a parents’ section listing the names of these machines which adults can refer to and teach the children.

Kids will definitely look for the humor and entertainment in this app. My youngest loves to seek out the hilarious animations and style his favorite characters. Kids can style up to 12 builders (by changing their hair, face, helmet, shirt, pants and shoes) and even have matching-color machines. Take a photo of the final look and see the changes come alive on the construction site. I had fun playing with Tiny Builders – Digger, Crane and Dumper for Kids! for this review and I’m positive that your child will also enjoy his time exploring this construction site. Check out the video preview below to see the app in action.

This review was originally published by TheiMums.com on August 6, 2015. The iMums – Amanda, Alison, Mary and Grace – are four mothers from different parts of the world dedicated to educating parents about the best digital stories, educational apps, fun games and technology products available for their children.  Founded in August 2011, the four iMums have 11 kids among them ranging in age from 1 to 17 and bring a global perspective to their app reviews.

The original iMum Amanda being from Australia, Alison is in America, Grace is from Singapore and Mary is from the UK but is currently living in America. Grace is a mother of 4 children aged from 6 to 18 years. The family of 6 loves to explore their neighborhood in Singapore and travel overseas during the school breaks. Her kids like to hang out together playing the iPad in their free time. At other times, the iPad is used mainly for educational purposes by her youngest son who has special needs. She checks the daily free apps listing and is most excited to share good app finds. Living in fast-paced education-obsessed Singapore, Grace recharges her energy by watching K drama on the iPad (there are apps for that too!).
