This is an adorable sequal to Ten Giggly Gorillas, an animated counting book from Graham Nunn, creator of the Larry Lizard series of book apps. As the app opens, one cute primate swings from the branches of a tree. With each subsequent page, additional gorillas are added, one by one. Readers tap and hold the branch the gorillas are on to catapult them up to the next section of a tall tree. Each gorilla has something unique; from a pirate's hat to a tutu, each animal is different.
The story goes on like this for ten pages, until there are no gorillas left. As the story progresses, the reader will see the page slide down to show a lower part of the same tree with all the gorillas hanging on. I'd love to see highlighting in time with the voice-over, word-for-word, but other than that this, it is an exceptional title. It captures the reader with subtle interactivity that enrichens reading comprehension. Wasabi's team has added beautifully to their earlier works, considered innovative since the iPad launched.
Notably, the interactivity is fun and repetitive, perfect for young readers. The developer, Wasabi Productions, was one of the first to market in 2010 after the iPad launched and has yet to disappoint. This app, in particular, builds artfully on their previous innovations. Every digital book from this team shows thoughtful crafting, considering both the user experience and developmental needs of children in general. What they've achieved in this app shows many years of evolution in their thinking about interactivity, with great results. The sophistication of the storytelling will be rewarded by children who want to read and re-read this storybook often.
Overall, this book app is delightful. It is deeply engaging for young readers & listeners, much like Mr. Nunn's earlier apps. The interactivity will have your kids giggling along with the story as they learn basic addition, one by one. For very young kids in particular, this app is sure to please.

Can you help the gorillas get to the top of the tree?
in this follow-up to the hugely popular ‘Ten Giggly Gorillas’ - the interactive book that’s had thousands of educational downloads in the US, Australia, and New Zealand - the reader is an integral part of the story.
Your role is to help one, then two, three, four and more gorillas get to the bananas at the top of the tree. It’s a storybook but it’s also an educational game. The fun is in catapulting each gorilla up to the branch above. And the learning is in listening to and learning to follow the instructions in the narration, recognising colours and numbers and using simple logic to help the gorillas on their way. One Giggly Gorilla is beautifully illustrated with fun 3D animations and cheeky dialogue on every page.
