Tim is a little boy that loves to eat only sausages and Sammy is a little sausage (living on a planet far away) that loves to eat little boys. Both have parents trying to push vegetables. Then their worlds collide when Sammy comes to earth in a rocket. The boys have a stand off and finally both decide to give up their favorite food. But what will the two enemies-turned-friends eat now? Brussels sprouts, of course!
Food Fight! is a phenomenal book app that is as funny as it is fun to play with. It has high-quality computer animation and vivid illustrations that really enhance the reading experience. It is also interactive, but not in a way that distracts from the story. There are lots of animated interactions on every page, plus great sound effects. In one scene tapping on Sammy's rocket causes a count-down and then an animation of a rocket launch (with realistic 'blasting off' sounds).
Every animation and interaction is also a bit different from the last, giving the book an especially 'fresh' feel to it, even for a reviewer who has seen a lot of interactive books on her iPad. My son particularly liked the scene where the two new friends are sitting in a brussels sprouts factory. If you tap on the giant mound of veggies, a cascade of sprouts hails down from the sky with firework sounds. Extra tapping brings a fireworks-style finale of hundreds of little green balls raining down on the two main characters.
This book also has a nice 'extra', namely a game where you find 5 stars hidden within the book. This then unlocks a bonus page, which is a nice reward for paying attention. This 'bonus' is a coloring page of Tim & Sammy eating brussels sprouts. It is a nice little addition to an ebook, and has a very intuitive style for coloring where you just tap the picture to fill in the color. Tap multiple times to change the color to any one of 18 choices. I had a bit of fun with it by myself, and I'm not a big fan of digital coloring apps, so that's saying something.
I also loved that on any page, you can use two-fingered 'pinch' to zoom in on the illustrations, a unique feature in an app book. If you turn the iPad and then zoom it up just right, you can even page through the book in portrait mode. Overall, this story is just so engaging and silly that children will want to read it again and again. A great read for real 'little boys' (and girls)!

Tim is a little boy who LOVES to eat sausages. He eats them for every meal and knows all the different names of exotic meats from around the world. He won't eat anything else, even when his parents try to hide vegetables in sausage casing.
Then, somewhere on a far away planet a sausage-alien with arms and legs is shopping for his favorite food, "little boys". Sammy the Sausage LOVES to eat little boys and won't eat anything else, even when his parents try to make a 'little boy' out of vegetables.
One day Sammy hears about Tim in a newspaper article. He is so incensed that he gets into his rocket and travels to earth. When Tim & Sammy meet they confront each other shouting, "Stop eating sausages," and "Stop eating little boys." But they instead keep eating their favorite food in front of each other until they are too full to move.
They come to a truce, agreeing to both stop eating their favorite food. But what to eat now? They decide to try a brussels sprout after getting very hungry and discover ... that they both LOVE eating brussels sprouts. The book ends with an irate anthropomorphized Brussels Sprout reading a newspaper article titled "Boy and Sausage Eat Sprouts!"
