This title, under the category games, is similar to a toddler board book with simple pictures and words for dozens of animals. Unlike a traditional book, though, this is an app to be 'played' with more than a book to be read. There are a lot of titles to teach spelling, sight-word recognition, etc. in the app store, but this one is particularly well put together and easy for a young child to navigate. While not really a book, it is an enjoyable app and a great way to reinforce early reading skills.
This app has great settings that let you control the level of difficulty for the child - either with lots of hints or almost none at all. The letters slide nicely into each word and when completed the child is rewarded by having the pictured animal enlarge and animate briefly. The words and letters are spoken aloud at the beginning of each page and anytime the animal is tapped or letters are slid around.
There is no way to skip around in this app but it does offer an easy & educational diversion for a young child to pick up and play on either iPhone or iPad. A "Deluxe" Version is also available that includes the animals in this title, as well as 100's of other words describing vehicles, shapes, colors and items around the house. A free "Sampler" version is available by clicking HERE.
