Elly Book 3

Elly the Reindeer is a cute cartoon-style reindeer. She has adventures with her animal friends in a sweet rural setting where all the child-like characters live in their own homes (by themselves) and look to each other for help, fun and solving the occasional dilemma. In this story Elly gets a mysterious package, but it is so windy that the parcel flies away before the postman can reach her door. As Elly chases her mail she runs into several friends who try to help her catch it.

Even with a bicycle, scooter and pogo stick, none of Elly's friends can pin the package down. Soon it is stuck in a tree. Just in time, the wise Owl character arrives. He flies up to the tree and retrieves the package. When Elly opens it, the group laughs to find out it was a kite. "What a perfect day to fly a kite!" says Elly!

This cute series of books has become a fast favorite of my preschooler at bedtime. The books are not narrated and have no settings, but they are short & sweet. This makes them perfect bedtime stories. With features like simple swipe-style page turning and an easy to read font, they are also a good choice for children learning to read.

All of the Elly books are enhanced with just a tiny bit of interactivity, featuring a single sound on about half the pages. This sound effect is tied to the text on the page, like wind blowing or a bicycle bell. It is triggered by tapping in a small circled image that corresponds with the sound. It is a nice little extra, but nothing to distract too much from the story or overstimulate a child at bedtime.

Like the other Elly books, this title features the same child-like animal friends that demonstrate positive pro-social behavior toward each other. It is perfect for reading to young children at any time of day. It would nice to see narration added to these titles, but even without, they are delightful and engaging for young readers and listeners.

Story Synopsis - Elly Book 3

In this ebook, the third of the Elly the Reindeer books, Elly receives a mysterious package. She sees Paavo the Postman struggling in the wind to bring her a large but apparently very light box. Before he can reach her house, the package blows away. Elly & Paavo run after the box, running into several friends along the way. The friends cannot catch the parcel either, even though they have a bicycle, scooter and even a pogo stick to speed up the chase. Finally they find the package stuck in a tree. Just in time, Owl shows up and flies to the tree to help them rescue Elly's mysterious mail. Once they get the box down, they open it to find a kite.
