Published in print in fall of 2010, Chrissie's Shell is about a little turtle living in the forest. She admires all the other creatures and often wishes she was something else. But in the end, God reminds her that every creature on earth is special and just needs to be the best at being themselves.
This is a lightly enhanced digital offering from the PicPocket Books collection. It makes a fabulous bedtime read and is a top pick of my little boy for reading together. It isn't interactive but has subtle animations throughout. These books don't leap off the page, but the storytelling is superb along with wonderful illustrations that make for an ideal picture book for kids.
This title features word-by-word highlighting to go along with the professional narration. It also has easy swipe-style page turning and a clear, simple font perfect for young readers. Overall this is a great little book for story time, especially suited for sharing with multiple children or for bedtime reading. It has a wonderful message about being happy with yourself from Psalm 139:14 (NIV) ... "I praise you because I am ... wonderfully made."

Chrissie is a small turtle who fantasizes about being some other sort of forest creature. She admires the birds, rodents and insects around her, seeing how many things they can do that she cannot. She moves slowly, but one day she finds a hurt lizard and carries him back to his home.
She often wishes to be a speedy squirrel, a prickly hedgehog or fast rabbit. She is disappointed to find that no amount of wishing can change her into something else. Yet she can shelter another animal beneath her protective shell. She sadly appeals to God, asking "could you make me into a real someone?"
God points out that she isn't an 'empty shell' but one filled with someone very special. "There is a very smart, very creative, very wonderful little someone in there. I know. I made her," says God, reminding the turtle that she was created perfectly. Soon Chrissie looks into the pond to see her own face. She comes to love the little creature inside her she - herself!
