Chipper's Rainy Day

Chipper makes lots of fun choices for his rainy day!

With polished animation, delightful interactivity and a short but sweet adventure story, Chipper's Rainy Day, has everything a young reader could wish for in a storybook app. Every one of the pages has animated and interactive elements featuring an adorable mouse-character named Chipper.

It is a rainy day and Chipper is excited ... but readers need to help him decide what to do next. As the story progresses, four opportunities are presented that let the reader 'choose their own adventure' by picking one of three options. This gives children a wonderful way to engage with the story. It also gives this app exceptional re-play value. The choices are whimsical, too ... like building a fort out out of buttons, toothpicks or tissue paper. Young readers will enjoy making decisions for Chipper and re-reading this cute title.

Nice enhancements for this solidly made app include highlighting text as narrated, a 'read to myself' mode and no outside links or in-app purchases. The graphics are also well done and feature simple, but polished animations with music and sound effects nicely tailored to each scene. Page turn is by simple arrows and the words are in a nice-sized, easy-to-read font. There isn't much more one could ask for in a free* app for kids!

Overall, this is a fun book with a unique storytelling approach that lets the reader drive the plot. Simple text and illustrations are paired with just the right amount of interactivity to engage the youngest readers. Highly Recommended!

Story Synopsis - Chipper's Rainy Day

Chipper is a little mouse who is excited for a rainy day. He chooses at first to build a fort ... readers get to choose from three materials (buttons, toothpicks or tissue paper). Next Chipper wants to play "hide and seek" ... but where should he hide? Readers can choose from three spots (on the bookshelf, in the knitting basket, or among the stuffed animals).

When Chipper decides to go outside to play in the rain, he has to decide what he wants to do (spash in puddles, ride a raft or dance with an umbrella). As the day ends, it's time for Chipper to take a bath, but he has to choose how (washing tub, water can or in a tea cup).

In the end, "Chipper had the best rainy day!"
