This cute title from PicPocket Books is based on the story & illustrations from Alta Tabor's classic picture book, published in 1920. Willie mouse is determined to get to the moon, so he heads out on a journey that takes him past many other creatures, who he asks for help. "The moon is made of green cheese, my mother says so," reports Willie to each of the animals he asks for assistance.
Each character tells Willie that the moon is too far away for a little mouse to travel, and that it isn't made of 'green cheese'. But Willie is determined, traveling until night-time. He has a snack and falls asleep, waking when the moon is high in the sky. Then Willie is grabbed by an owl wanting to feed Willie to her babies before being saved by "Mr. Elf". In the end, Willie gives up on finding the moon until he's 'a little older, bigger and wiser' ... still convinced that the moon is made of cheese.
As a digital offering, this title lacks interactivity and animation, but is well-made. It has easy, swipe-style page turning, a clear font and nice narration (although it does not highlight). Text appears a few sentences at a time on many pages, with a nice 'bell' sound (like old-school audio-books) to alert readers to turn the page. Additional settings would be nice to see added in a future update, like a page guide and home button.
Overall this simply-made tale is all about the story. There are no other enhancements to this public domain title, but it makes a great bedtime story and is perfect for group storytimes. It also has a couple great additional pages at the end with discussion questions and additional facts about the moon (and it being made of cheese or not). A fun story for young readers & listeners.
