Be a Buddy, Not a Bully written by Michael Scotto and developed by Midlandia Press is the third iPad book app in the “Tales of Midlandia” series. Just on time for back to school, it is a fantastic book that raises the sensitive issue about bullying via a great story about friendship, fairness and sharing with stunning illustrations, top audio and great interactive features ... Another Fun Educational Top Pick!
Be a Buddy, Not a Bully is the third in the Tales of Midlandia series. It is about sweet Harvest the farmer who has a problem with Buck the banker. Buck is a mean little guy who is digging Harvest’s corn field without permission. Harvest tries to tell him how he feels and that he has no right to dig on his property, but Buck acts as a bully and refuses to leave the premises. Thanks to Harvest courage to express his feeling and good senses to seek for help outside, the two companions solve the issue in a friendly and peaceful manner.
Be a Buddy, Not a Bully is no exception to the series. Once more talented Michael Scotto has managed to bring a difficult subject to our kids. Unfortunately, with back to school many kids may have to deal with bullying. Often, kids are not sure how to tackle the issue and solutions are not always easy. Be a Buddy, Not a Bully can offer some help, may be not a solution but at least the story opens the door to the discussion. Kids will learn that it is important to tell someone and communicate with others when facing bullying issues.
To captivate, entertained and engage the kids, this book app offers many interactive features (at least one on every page!) and when readings with your kids make sure to tap on Harvest and Buck. Each time a speech bubble shows so kids can listening to what the character is feeling. A smart feature to engage the kids and encourage them to speak about what they feel.
Beside the great story and message that this storybook app has to offer, the kids at Fun Educational Apps really enjoyed the stunning bright and colourful illustrations as well as the custom music, audio, and special effects. The kids also liked the open questions at the end of the book and we had a great discussion about bullying issues.
The app offers 3 reading modes: Read by Myself, Auto Play, and Read to me. Note, the last 2 options offer word highlights to help young reader to read along. The narration is great, clear, crisp and very professional with lots of expression and intonation to captivate your kids throughout the story.
Overall, Be a Buddy, Not a Bully is another great addition to the Tales of Midlandia series. It offers a great story line along with a powerful message to raise our kid’s awareness about bullying. The app itself is top quality … easy to use, stunning graphics and animation and just enough interactive features to keep the kids engaged and entertained. By now, I am sure you guessed Be a Buddy, Not a Bully is another TOP PICK for Fun Educational Apps.

From Digital-Stortime's review of "Builda the Re-Bicycler":
Midlandia is a fictional land where anthropomorphized canines work, live and have all sorts of adventures. This lightly animated and interactive series is full of fun illustrations with lots of detail to show off Midlandia and its inhabitants. Nice hints show kids where to tap, triggering sound effects and cute animations, most of which are plot-related. This interactivity provides reinforcement of the storyline and feels thoughtful and polished throughout the book. There are also a nice array of settings accessible from the bottom of each page. Text is in an easy-to-read font that highlights as narrated and page turning is by simple arrows.
Overall, this is a fun read and part of a series my child really enjoys. There is just enough fantasy with this fictional world to draw young readers in for an instructive tale. Ends with questions for reading comprehension and further discussion.
Harvest the farmer has a problem. Mean old Buck is digging around on his land and refuses to leave! Can gentle Harvest handle Buck’s bullying on his own? Or will he need help?
