A familiar tale is retold in this app with a host of fun enhancements, including simple animated elements that react when tapped. The illustrations & storytelling are lovely and educational features make this a great fairy tale app. Most of the interactive elements are not relevant to the storyline, however, providing children with a lot of fun things that bounce & wiggle when tapped but also potentially distracting kids from the plot.
The story is well presented with helpful settings like a page guide and ways to control audio elements. The text also highlights word-for-word, making for a nice educational feature. Overall, this is a nice digital reproduction of the classic fairy tale about a wooden boy and his father, but it is a bit dry and generic. Enhancements are fun but not innovative or useful for children's reading comprehension. The app is also solidly made with ample settings for navigation and flexibity for use in a number of settings, especially the classroom.

“Pinocchio” is an all-time favorite - a classic adventure originally written by an Italian writer, Carlo Collodi in 1883, that remains just as moving today as it was more than a century ago. This Pink Paw Books edition, with brand new illustrations and exciting sound and narration effects, brings the story to life with exquisite drawings and a simple yet engaging narrative. Children can identify with Pinocchio immediately, sympathizing with his struggles and desires, and welcoming the lesson of acceptance that has made this tale a classic.
The story of “Pinocchio” is a must-read for children who are beginning to establish their ideas about who they are and who they wish to be. Parents will love the easy-to-navigate menu and the illustrations that highlight the “old-timey” feel of the story without sacrificing appeal for young children.
Fairytales introduce many life lessons that can help children grow into the world around them with wisdom and understanding. In particular, classic tales that have withstood the test of time and cultures around the world, remind even adults of the innocence, importance of morals, and insight into the human nature. Pink Paw Books has recreated a series of fairytales, in collaboration with professional illustrators, to enhance the hidden treasures of the old tales. Utilizing the digital device to its full potential, we have designed this interactive fairytale series to encourage children to discover true enjoyment of literature.
Each interactive book app provides seven different language settings and a choice of three different reading modes (Read-Along, Read Myself and Auto-Play) to fit the needs of readers of diverse ages and levels. Parents and teachers are encouraged to further discuss the story with the information provided in the Parents’ Menu, which includes background information about the tale and an introduction to the illustrator and his/her artwork.
