Little Miss Liberty

The Digital Media Diet

Little Miss Liberty is a short little ebook with narration but few other enhancements. The story itself is very cute, telling a tongue-in-cheek story about a little girl, born in Paris and set to grow up to be the statuesque beauty known as the Statue of Liberty. She outgrows her home (literally) and goes to explore the world until finally finding a place to live on a pedestal in New York City.

The book is well made, with both swipe and arrow turning for the pages. The illustrations are hand-drawn with text that is easy to read, although a bit small. In addition to the storybook, this app contains a single puzzle as a bonus. It is also well made, but only contains 6 pieces, so is very simple.

The pages are presented two at a time in landscape mode. I think it woud be a bit nicer if displayed larger one page at a time in portrait mode, which might also make it easier to read. Another nice addition I'd suggest would be highlighting as the book is narrated, although it is an enjoyable read in it's current form.

Overall this is a nice download for American Independence Day (4th of July Holiday). The story is also a perfect length for bedtime, with very little to overstimulate a child.

All reviews are of the app, not the platform/device. Based originally on iPad versions. Minor technical details may vary.

Story Synopsis - Little Miss Liberty

A newborn baby girl arrives one morning in Paris. Her name is 'Little Miss Liberty'. She is green and could stand as soon as she was born. She also grew enormously, finally being wrapped in a toga-like costume. She loved to read and kept growing and growing to be very tall. She picks out a star-pointed hat one day and in class her hand was always up.

After she finishes school she finds she has outgrown her whole life, so she decides to travel, torch in hand. After seeing much of the world she finally finds a place that is just right for her. She stands there from that day on ... on a pedestal in New York.
