I Can Read With My Eyes Shut! follows in the tradition of The Cat in the Hat, with a strong emphasis on sight words. Published in 1978 toward the end of Dr. Seuss' career, this title features a young "Cat in the Hat" character that is being shown the way of the 'world of reading' by his older mentor, the original "Cat in the Hat".
The two cats explore lots of whimsical topics, true to Seuss, all showing how reading can lead to discoveries and adventures. "Young cat! If you keep your eyes open enough, oh, the stuff you will learn!" says the older cat to the younger. More about reading with your eyes open than shut, this is an upbeat book with inspiration for young readers.
Like other titles from Oceanhouse Media, this book has an eye on educational enhancements. For the read-a-long effect, each word is highlighted as it is read. Tap on any word to hear it spoken, even in the 'read-it-myself' mode. Light interactivity is also used primarily to emphasize word recognition for young readers. Most of the items pictured in the story react to a light tap with a visual image of the word with accompanying audio (for example, tap either cats' hat and the word "hat" will appear with audio saying “hat” near the picture). If the image tapped is also represented in the text on that page, the word will highlight as well.
This title is not animated. Each page does begin by panning over Seuss' classic original artwork, though, zooming in and out to show off each segment of text. This creates a nice semi-animated style that increases engagement with movement and the chunking of text. In digital form, this Seuss book app is is great for shared or bedtime reading, although it shines most for academic use. Overall, this is a must for any digital collection, especially those focused on learner readers. Highly recommended!

The Cat in the Hat shows a Young Cat the fun he can get out of reading. Also shows that reading is a useful tool to acquire knowledge. [Wikipedia - Dr. Seuss Bibliography]
Beginner Books is the Random House imprint for young children ages 4-8, co-founded by Phyllis Cerf with Ted Geisel, more often known as Dr. Seuss, and his wife Helen Palmer Geisel. Their first book was Dr. Seuss's The Cat in the Hat (1957). The rest of the series was modeled on the requirement Seuss set himself in writing that book: for each book, the author was to use no more than 200 words taken from a list of 379 words compiled by Cerf as the basic vocabulary for young readers, along with twenty more slightly harder "emergency" words.
