Based on the 2009 print title by Amy Recob, this sweet storybook is now available as an app with interactive enhancements and games about each of the food allergies explored in the narrative. The story features common situations where children with food allergies might face difficulties, like attending a birthday party, trick-or-treating and eating in the school cafeteria. In each situation, the bug character models a great attitude by responding, "No thank you, It's really okay. I can still have lots of fun without [name of allergic food] anyway." Adorable children's voices narrate the bugs' voices, which highlight word-for-word
This story is told in nicely crafted rhyming verse, with light animation and interactive elements that add additional depth to the narrative through character dialogue. The overall tone and feel of the book is positive and supportive for kids (and their classmates) with allergies, encouraging a focus on the fun things everyone CAN do, despite a handful of foods some kids need to avoid. Overall this is a unique and useful addition to any digital library for children. The app includes a game page where kids can identify safe and not safe food for Bugabees with allergies to: fish, nuts, wheat, eggs, soy, milk and eggs.

From Bugabees Website:
It is estimated that close to 6 million American children suffer from food allergies. In the most severe cases, food allergies can cause dangerous reactions where the release of histamine and other chemicals may cause swelling, difficulty breathing, heart failure, circulatory collapse, and even death.
While the medical community continues to research options for treatment and prevention of this prevalent issue, parents search for a way to protect their children not only from the physical, but also the emotional consequences of a food allergy diagnosis.
In our culture, food is more than just a method of sustaining our health and well-being. Food is used regularly to celebrate events, reward achievements, provide comfort, and even show our love. Given the society we live in, how can we teach our children to safely participate in everyday activities without feeling a sense of exclusion? The BugaBees can help.
With colorful imagery and cute characters kids can relate to, the BugaBees offer an optimistic approach to managing food allergies by focusing on all the things they can - as opposed to can’t - have.
While a child could be allergic to any food, there are eight common allergens that account for 90 percent of all reactions in children. They include:
