Larry the lazy lizard is back in this cute sequel. In this title, the reader gets to help Larry out (instead of bugging him) by poking Larry to warn him about several hazards. You can wake Larry up from his nap so he can escape from a spider, snake, eagle and many other dangers. Then, as a bonus treat, a second series of pages show Larry 'dreaming' of being able to vanquish his predators. For instance, in his dream he doesn't run away from the spider. Instead, he becomes a fire-breathing dragon and scares the spider away. This extra story is adorable and the entire book is one of my little boy's favorite apps.
It's been nearly a year since the first book in this series was published. At the time, it seemed revolutionary. Lazy Larry Lizard was one of the books I would show people who wanted to see what I meant when I said, "The iPad is going to change the way children read books ... forever." The reaction when you first touch Larry is just that remarkable. I was delighted to find that the same magic is present in this second book.
Even after a year of reading books we could touch, the 'Larry' books still really set the standard for truly original and innovative use of the medium. The realistic way that Larry reacts to the readers interactions will put a smile on just about anyone's face. And this one is even cuter with Larry not being bothered by the reader but instead helped (which is a nice message for the children reading, as well).
This ebook, like the first, is well made with easy page turn arrows, nice narration and great animations that make the story truly come alive. If you liked Lazy Larry Lizard, you will definitely enjoy this book. And if you haven't seen the first app, don't hesitate to get them both - these are two short, sweet titles that will not disappoint. Now also includes highlighting word-for word - added in 2012.
All reviews are of the app, not the platform/device. Based originally on iPad versions. Minor technical details may vary.

Larry the lizard keeps sleeping in dangerous places. The reader needs to poke him to get him to move out of the way of a spider, snake, eagle, bulldozer and brush fire. In the end, he finds a nice rock to hide under for a nap. Then, in Larry's dream, he imagines that he becomes a fire breathing dragon to scare off the spider. Or he becomes a magician with magic wand to make the snake disappear. He even imagines the eagle becoming a harmless butterfly. For the last dream, with the bulldozer, Larry lets the reader tap to fill the forest back up with trees.
