This is a simple but engaging book for very young children. It has cheery, colorful images of a farm, farmer, barn and lots of animals. Each page begins with a number and corresponding group of animals, from 1 dog barking all the way up to 10 geese honking. For interactivity, tap any number to hear it read aloud.
The child can also tap on a little image of each animal featured to hear sound effects that match the noise described (i.e. barking, honking, ...). This makes the book fun for kids, although a bit noisy. My son enjoyed this book so much he wanted to read it over and over. Adults may find the repetitive story & noises less charming, but the book is perfect developmentally for it's target audience.
Big Red Barn is nicely narrated with simple page turning and an interface easy enough for even toddlers to navigate. It is by the same developer as the Elly the Reindeer books and is equally well-made. There isn't much of a storyline, making this ebook the equivalent of a toddler board book. Overall, this ebook is cute and provides nice reinforcement of number recognition and counting while also increasing familiarity with the sounds and names of traditional farm animals.

On the farm there is a big red barn. In the barn are many animals, including: 1 dog barking, 2 cats purring, 3 cocks crowing, 4 hens clucking, 5 pigs oinking, 6 goats bleating, 7 cows mooing, 8 ducks quacking, 9 sheep baaing and 10 geese honking. Then all the animals come out of the barn, one group of animals at a time in number order from 1-10. Plus 'one happy farmer' at the end!
