I really wanted to love this app ... I loved the Richard Scarry books as a child, particularly pouring over their detailed illustrations to see every little funny and creative detail. This app, however, is a much less free form experience, with a game that has the reader look for a specific item in each room's scene. While it is fun and very engaging for children, as an adult who enjoyed the print books, I found the app somewhat underwhelming overall.
The app is solidly made with simple arrow page turns between game activities. The game is also nicely narrated and very intuitively designed. I suspect if I'd had no previous experience with the print books I might be less disappointed. My little boy really enjoyed this app and I did appreciate how the app chooses a different object for the child to find every time you choose a new room to explore.
Overall this is a well-made game app with the timeless appeal of Richard Scarry's illustrations. Young children are rewarded for paying attention to detail and become more familiar with lots of common objects found in each room.
